Trauma-Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy part I

Course summary

Trauma-focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder that aims to help the individual come to terms with trauma through exposure to, and emotional processing of, memories of the event.

Part One, the first of two courses in the TF-CBT series, introduces practitioners to the common components of this evidence-based treatment. 

Part Two goes on to provide practitioners with in-depth instruction in the use of Imaginal and In-Vivo Exposure Therapy, and Trauma-focussed Cognitive Therapy. 

Practitioners are welcome to complete one or both parts of the series, depending on their individual learning needs.

Course aims

This course aims to introduce practitioners to the common components of this evidence-based treatment:

  • Psychoeducation
  • Engagement and stabilization
  • Management of co-morbidities
  • Imaginal and in-vivo exposure therapy and trauma-focused cognitive therapy
  • Relapse prevention and termination
Course learning outcomes

After taking this course practitioners will be able to:

  • Understand the common components of TF-CBT and
  • Be able to construct a comprehensive treatment plan for individuals suffering from PTSD
