Following exposure to a potentially traumatic event (PTE), some people will develop a range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and of course – Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. This course will provide you with detailed information about this condition, including diagnosis, risk factors for development, prevalence, gender differences, commonly co-occurring conditions and course. It also explores theories of PTSD and describes the most evidence-based treatments.
You should do this course if you want to deepen your understanding of this debilitating but treatable condition.
Anyone can do this course, including individuals who have experienced trauma, loved ones and family members of someone suffering from the condition - and individual workers who support people with the condition, such as reception and administrative staff, insurance workers and case managers, rehabilitation providers, health care professionals, or mental health specialists.
Mental health clinicians who complete this course may also wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in the use of Trauma-focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT). To learn more about this evidence-based treatment, please visit our TF-CBT online training page.
The adaption and delivery of this Phoenix Australia resource is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health, as part of its COVID-19 mental health and response package.
